Salvation Army Church Graduates its First 26 Adult Literacy Students

The Salvation Army successfully graduated 26 students from its first 2022 Adult Literacy and Numeracy Learning Program on November 19th, in Port Moresby.

The Salvation Army Church Major Tracy Palmer was delighted to commend Ela Motors for this generous financial assistance to fund the learning and teaching of the Adult Literacy Program.  “You touch a life. You touch a nation.”

“Learning something new takes courage because we move from where we are comfortable into a different place with the confidence to start. Thus, it is not just about learning to read. It is about helping people progress to the next stage of life. So we are grateful for Ela Motors’ funding because we were able to prove that this would work. Now we can do this.”

This program was initially funded by Ela Motors early this year with K18, 000 to facilitate the implementation of the Adult Literacy program that ended on a high note of hectic learning and teaching for the past six months.

The Ela Motors National Marketing Manager Benjamin Niligur, commended the students for completing the six months learning program.

He said the company values and aspire to support and elevate living standards and develop human resources through education by assisting organizations such, as the Salvation Army, through its CSR program with funding that will benefit the people and communities.

It was a historical moment for students, teachers and their immediate family members who have committed their time and effort to support, participate, witness and celebrate the graduation.

Thank you, Salvation Army and Ela Motors for supporting our learning. It was a challenge for some of us who had left school for so long. This program has motivated and allowed us to complete a chapter of our education—remark by Student.
